Secret London : The UK’s Largest Ever Exhibition On Yoko Ono Will Land At The Tate Modern Next Year (by Jack Saddler)

Yoko Ono: Music Of The Mind is hitting the Tate Modern in February 2024, and will provide the largest glimpse into her life's work at a UK exhibition yet.

Early next year, an exhibition featuring over half a century’s work by Yoko Ono is set to debut at the Tate Modern, marking the largest ever exhibition on her life in the UK to date.

Landing on February 15, 2024 and sticking around until September 1, Yoko Ono: Music Of The Mind promises to be a multi-platform look at the work of the world-renowned artist across the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Visitors can expect to see more than 200 pieces, across the forms of artwork, music, films, photography, installations, her engagement with her audience, and much more.

What can I expect to see at Yoko Ono: Music Of The Mind?

You’ll be able to catch an up-close glimpse at some of Yoko Ono’s most discussed artwork and performances through the mediums of art, experimental film, and music.

Honing in on key moments in Yoko Ono’s career, the exhibition will span across six decades worth of her impact. You’ll be able to see segments on Cut Piece (1964), when she invited people to cut off parts of her clothing as well as her banned Film No.4 (1966-7), which was created as a means to “petition for peace”. The exhibition will also examine her years living in London, which was where she met John Lennon.

There will also be selected works from her many activist projects, which include PEACE is POWER and Wish Tree, where those at the exhibition can put forward their own wishes for peace. A standout of the exhibition then comes in the form of the installation “My Mommy Is Beautiful”, a wall stretching 15-metres long where visitors can contribute by sharing photos of their own mothers with a personal message.
