Gerhard Richter (Born 1932 in Dresden, Germany) is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. He is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artists and several of his works have set record prices at auction.

Gerhard Richter, geboren 1932 in Dresden, floh 1961 mit seiner ersten Frau Ema in die BRD, wo er sein Studium bei Karl Otto Götz in Düsseldorf fortsetzte. Mit skeptischen Malereien und Skulpturen wurde er ab den achtziger Jahren zu einem der meistverehrten lebenden Künstler. Er lebt in Köln.
